If you are just now reading this, You Are Too Late! Southeast baby Shavone just entered her BLONDE YAKI era and it’s been up ever since! Not only has the young San Diego native been riding high off the success of her best selling book, “Black Internet Effect.” On June 25th she released one of the simplest most creative videos of the summer called BLONDE YAKI “Peekaboo” freestyle. The release comes on the heels of her amazing performance at LA’s SHIFT CTRL Juneteenth event.
The “Peekaboo” freestyle is a reinterpretation of Kendrick Lamar’s original, with live flute melodies layered over the top delivered by the classically trained musician Shavone. Visually, the BLONDE YAKI “Peekaboo” freestyle doubles down on Black beauty iconography. Co-directed by the multi-talented SHAVONE. and longtime collaborator Filthy McDave, the video was shot at Volume Studios in Inglewood. In the video Shavone debuts her BLONDE YAKI look—a tribute to the vibrant hair aesthetics of ’90s and early 2000s Black culture. Styled by her mom, Bonnie, a skilled beautician, she rocks fuchsia crimps, swooped bangs, and cascading “waterfalls,” topped off with a Balenciaga jacket and classic Nike TL Shox as well as a well placed cameos from respected Southeast San Diego spitter Tiny Doo.
Accompanying the “Peekaboo” drop, Shavone. is also releasing a Dot Pack for fans — a two-track freestyle bundle that includes a bonus track titled “MORTICIA,” where she raps over Kendrick Lamar’s “Watch the Party Die.” The pack highlights Shavone’s versatility and range — making it a must-listen for fans of bars, and musicality.
The BLONDE YAKI “Peekaboo” freestyle marks the beginning of a larger summer rollout for Shavone and her team, including additional freestyles, original music, and community-rooted programming — all of which reinforce Shavone’s impact at the intersection of music, fashion, technology, and community.
