In the early morning on Oct 29th. 2018 New Orleans Rapper Young Greatness, Real name Theodore Jones was Was shot and killed at a local 24 hour waffle house near his neighborhood.
The 34 year old rapper was considered to be Next up out of New Orleans. As an up and coming rapper Young Greatness had a rock star swagger and personality garnering lots of industry attention quickly building a solid national fan base. He recently signed with Cash Money Records and was preparing for stardom. Speaking with XXL for The Break three years ago, Greatness declared rap stardom as one of his goals.
“It’s only one Young Greatness,” he said at the time. “I have goals to be the next star to come out of New Orleans and I have a strategic plan.
Unfortunately that plan was cut short when Young Greatness was shot once outside of a waffle house on 2900 block’s Elysian Fields Avenue. He was declared dead on the scene. Witness’s say the suspects fled in the rapper’s vehicle. Police are currently searching for two suspects in the murder.
While speaking with New Orleans’ WDSU News, Greatness’ mother, Jeanine Rose, seemingly criticized the government and Police Department while explaining the state of the city and the tragedy of young men dying too soon.
“I can’t stand that place,” she says. “They can have it with their politics and potholes. It’s too many mothers taking slow walks to sad tombs while they sit at home and play politics with people’s life and people living.”
Rappers keep getting killed at an alarming rate, Young Greatness is now among the saddening static of murdered rappers who’ve been shot and killed in 2018. This past June, Pittsburgh’s Jimmy Wopo and Florida’s XXXTentacion were shot and killed on the same day in different cities. Earlier this month another Louisiana rapper, Marlsey G was Murdered in the same fashion.
